Manifesto

THE FUTURE IS BORING. MAKE IT MEAN SOMETHING. Creative Direction is too often a magic trick. It asks the audience to buy into a mass illusion - a fleeting distraction meant for a moment. But creativity is not just a distraction. It should leave a mark and drive change. The creative industry is obsessed with taste, trend, and concept. An endless loop of synced-up groupthink. Watching, waiting for the cycles to return - the future looks boring. Design must learn from time-based media: with music and film top of the list. Hollywood doesn’t just chase the aesthetic zeitgeist; it is financially incentivised to go deeper. Scripts are not driven by moodboards; they are built on the foundations of ancient story archetypes, engineered beat by beat to elicit a visceral response. The film invites you to laugh, cry, or cover your eyes until ‘the bad bits are over’. It creates deep emotional connections that enable change through the strength of feeling. Because human action is driven by emotion, not aesthetics. We reject the myth that feeling is intangible or elusive. That talking about emotion is only for support groups, the free love generation and drunken walks home. Emotion is not an accident. It is a mechanism. It can be designed, directed, and laser-focused to leave a permanent legacy. We must break the cycle. Stop looking at pinterest. Stop only looking for answers within your own industry. Stop decorating the echochamber. Break the illusion and recognise that often your instinct is driven by these cycles. Then. Don’t just give them something to look at - make them feel something.
