Obongjayar - Paradise Now

The 'two sides of one coin' inspired Obongjayar as he worked on his most recent album - driven by contrast and duality. This is ever present in Obongjayar’s dual vocal delivery, the contrast of his stage energy from energetic to stripped back, and the overall musicality of the album.

Visually manifesting this idea of duality we created a stage divided in two by a stage high sheet of light. On one side, a soft velvet drape cascades over the edge of the stage towards the audience. On the other, industrial steel decking is finished with a large hard edged rock. This provides two zones to perform within, hosting the different sides of Obongjayar's personality and performance. And as an audience member, it's impossible to take your eyes off the dynamic progression of Obongjayar’s performance on stage, so we created a long elevated catwalk across the whole stage to elevate the performance and bring him closer to all the crowd throughout the floor and galleries.

The lighting itself swapped between cinematic soft-boxes and strobing heads. This combination of dualities allowed us to reach a crescendo through variation, ending on a high with Obongjayar's most rowdy and dancible tunes and with a guest appearance from Little Simz.
